SiO 2 is also called silica. It is widely distributed in nature, such as quartz and quartz sand. White or colorless, the higher iron content is pale yellow. The density ranges from 2.2 to 2.66. The melting point is 1670 ("squarry") and 1710 ("cristobalite"). The boiling point is 2230 C and the relative dielectric constant is 3.9. It is insoluble in water and slightly soluble in acid, and can function with molten alkali when it is in granular state. It is used for making glass, sodium silicate, pottery, enamel, refractory, ferrosilicon, moulding sand, elemental silicon, etc.

二氧化硅又称硅石,化学式SiO₂。自然界中存在有结晶二氧化硅和无定形二氧化硅两种。 结晶二氧化硅因晶体结构不同,分为石英、鳞石英和方石英三种。纯石英为无色晶体,大而透明棱柱状的石英叫水晶。若含有微量杂质的水晶带有不同颜色,有紫水晶、茶晶、墨晶等。普通的砂是细小的石英晶体,有黄砂(较多的铁杂质)和白砂(杂质少、较纯净)。二氧化硅晶体中,硅原子的4个价电子与4个氧原子形成4个共价键,硅原子位于正四面体的中心,4个氧原子位于正四面体的4个顶角上,SiO₂是表示组成的最简式,仅是表示二氧化硅晶体中硅和氧的原子个数之比。二氧化硅是原子晶体。
Silica, also known as silica, is chemically compacted with SiO. There are two kinds of crystalline silica and amorphous silica in nature. Crystalline silica can be divided into quartz, squarrite and cristobalite because of its different crystal structure. Pure quartz is a colourless crystal. Large and transparent prismatic quartz is called crystal. If the crystal containing trace impurities has different colors, there are amethyst, tea crystal, ink crystal and so on. Ordinary sand is fine quartz crystal, with yellow sand (more iron impurities) and white sand (less impurities, more pure). In silicon dioxide crystals, four valence electrons of silicon atoms form four covalent bonds with four oxygen atoms. Silicon atoms are located at the center of the tetrahedron, four oxygen atoms are located at the four apex angles of the tetrahedron. SiO ramming is the simplest formula for the composition of silicon and oxygen atoms in silicon dioxide crystals. Silica is an atomic crystal.
